• Artist Statement

My work consists of two roles: “caricature artist” and “fine art painter”. Drawing caricatures at events and for commissions the past seventeen years provides the basis for my art practice. Whether it’s live or in the studio, I've compiled over 10,000 hours of drawing faces. Drawing caricatures demands an outcome-based vision, as "beginning with the end in mind" is the first step to a successful caricature.

Not surprisingly, then, the “fine art painting” aspect of my work departs from the outcome-based approach and follows a more process-oriented mindset. With painting, I tend to dive into a subject experimentally, getting into "problems" before trying to solve them through the editing process. My most recent series highlights the “process” of making itself, taking the proliferation of construction in Nashville and using it as a metaphor for painting.
